This new issue of the Electronic Bulletin of our Foundation has rich contents, among which it is worth mentioning the high priority given to Public Health items, such as Suicide Prevention. On September 10th, 2006, it will be the Suicide Prevention World Day. Every year, the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP), together with the World Health Organization, use this day to draw people's attention on suicide, as one of the main causes of premature death, which may be prevented. This year's theme is "More knowledge, more hope" and interest will be centred on transferring scientific knowledge and research about suicide behaviour into practical programs and activities which may diminish suicide behaviour and save lives.
This year the World Federation for Mental Health participates with IAPS in the promotion of activities about such topic. This is why this year, within Fundación Contener 5th Annual National and International Meeting, we will make a South American celebration of the World Mental Health Day, which has been celebrated by the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) since 1992. Every year, on October 10th, the aim is to make the public aware of important topics for the population's mental health. This year's theme is " Building Awareness - Reducing risks : Mental Illness and Suicide".
This Meeting will be hosted within the 13th International Congress of Psychiatry, organized by the Argentine Association of Psychiatry (AAP).
